All concerned,

I will be holding a meet and greet session, sponsored by the SSHM Association (Mr. Mike Gillen President) at the Harbor Master’s Office on Saturday the 21ST , at 9:00 am/0900 hours.  I would encourage you to attend so that you have the opportunity to meet and discuss issues and concerns with me and get the latest information on the on-going projects and vision for the harbor.   As all of you know, things take time to get into operation, but I want you all to know what’s happening here in the near future.  The Association will be graciously serving coffee and donuts, and we are looking forward to seeing all of you here.  It’s a great opportunity to get some of you back involved in boating, conducting functions through the association, and l will be looking for all suggestions that you might have in regard to getting the marina back involved as a community.   You are welcome to bring your own folding chair. Thanks.

Very Respectfully,

TO: South Shore Harbor Marina Tenants

Downloadable Agenda

All Concerned,

In an effort to make our operations better/safer for all our tenants, I respectfully request that we as a whole take care of a few items that need addressing.  As I get my arms wrapped around my job, I plan to hold a tenant meeting at both Orleans Marina and South Shore Harbor to pass along information that will be useful to you and hopefully provide the way ahead for both marinas.  I will also listen to concerns and try to address them as we go forward.  Below is the listing of items that need to be taken care of.  If this isn’t something that you’re doing yourself, please understand this isn’t pointed at you personally but rather as a whole for all tenants.  Thanks in advance.

  1. Clean up of pier space:  fuel cans, bikes, paddle boards, small boats, and miscellaneous items on the pier need to be stowed in the dock boxes of your individual boat slip.  Small boats must be stowed on boats and lashed down for safety and security.

  2. Riding bikes and skateboards on piers:  that is a safety issue for both you and other tenants.  Please just don’t do it.

  3. Hurricane season:  as the season approaches, each tenant should be prepared in advance.  This includes changing all lines that are rotten, frayed, or in disrepair.  General maintenance of boats should be conducted monthly to maintain your boat in good condition.  In general, there are a handful of boats that require some TLC to ensure your investment doesn’t go to waste and that your boat is ready to go when you are.

  4. Pets:  everyone has a pet that is part of the family and loved.  If you bring them out to partake in your boating adventure, please make sure you have followed the instructions of the lease.  It requires you to have a copy of their shot record on file here at the office, a picture of the animal, always leashed, tags displayed on collar, and pet form brought to the office.  As most know, you are liable if your pet were to bite someone.  This practice is to cover the marina and yourself if an incident were to happen.

  5. Oil Containment Area:  We maintain an oil containment area for your use.  Please do not just pour your waste oil or fluids directly on the ground, through the containment fence, or leave outside the area for us to clean up.  Let a staff member know you need us to open it up for you and we will assist in the proper disposal of all contaminated fluids.

  6. Restrooms and shower areas:  Please be good neighbors and clean up behind yourselves.

  7. Entrance gates:  Since arriving here there have been four gate keypads broken at Orleans Marina and two at South Shore Harbor.  Someone is beating on them until they fail.  Thus far security hasn’t caught them in the act, but if you get caught in the act of destroying security pads you will be prosecuted to the fullest.  Each lock costs in the neighborhood of $1800.00 each plus labor.  If you see someone breaking the pads, please take a picture and let me know that you caught them.

  8. Issues/Concerns:  Please feel free to stop by at any time I’m in the office to express your concerns.  If I don’t know about it, I can’t fix it.  I will be maintaining an office at both marinas.

  9. Leases:  Some people are behind with signing their new leases.  Let’s start the new fiscal year off right and get our paperwork completed in a timely manner and into the office for our annual audit.  Insurance & Registration:  Proof of Insurance that includes $300,000 P&I,  Comp & Collision and/or Salvage/Wreck Removal or Hull Value Coverage, and Additional Insured added as follows:

South Shore Harbor Marina                                                 Orleans Marina

Lakefront Management Authority-OLD                                Lakefront Management Authority-OLD

6701 Stars and Stripes Blvd, Box 1-A                                 221 Lake Marina Ave, Box 1-A

New Orleans, LA 70126                                                      New Orleans, LA 70124

LAWLF Registration or USCG Documentation: If application has been submitted but documents not received, the app and receipt of payment or confirmation email will suffice until your Certificate arrives.  All assistance in this matter is appreciated!

  1. Electrical Meters:  Some people maintain their bilge pumps utilizing dock side electricity, and some using solar power to maintain them.  Please take a moment to check that your pumps are in good working order.  Dockside power lines must be kept out of the water for everyone’s safety.

  2. We will be moving the bike racks next to the guard shack at Orleans Marina for better security of them.  So, if you have one on the rack, please remove it so I can relocate them for better security.  Once the racks are moved, I would like for everyone to remove their bikes from the piers and store them on the bike racks.  It’s a safety issue and could impede firefighters that might need to get in those areas.  Additionally, some people are haphazardly leaving them on the pier where someone might trip and get hurt.

  3. I have spoken to both tenant association presidents, and they have passed along their concerns.  Besides me you have them to go to for any issues you may have as well.  If you don’t currently belong to one of the association’s I would encourage you to join.  Orleans Marina President is Mr. Carl Hudson and South Shore Harbor Marina President is Mr. Mike Gillen.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Very Respectfully (v/r),
