About Us

Founded in 2013, the South Shore Harbor Marina Association is a community of boaters dedicated to the safety and enjoyment of recreational boating.

 

The South Shore Harbor Marina Association, SSHMA, is an organization comprised of boat owners supporting the needs of recreational boaters. Our objective is to facilitate improvements to ensure the continued and long-term success of South Shore Harbor that will enable it to become the premier recreational boating destination in the South.

 

South Shore Harbor Marina, located in New Orleans at 6701  Stars and Stripes Blvd, offers 453 open slips and 26 covered slips. This protected harbor is located on the south side of Lake Pontchartrain just East of the Industrial Canal, adjacent to Lakefront Airport at GPS "A Marker" 30°02'58.30"N 90°01'09.81"W.  Conveniently located just 20 minutes away from the French Quarter and New Orlean's Central Business District, South Shore Harbor Marina features on-site security, restrooms and showers, secured parking, transient slips, and a pump out station. The SSMHA is a community of boaters committed to the improvement, maintenance, and security of South Shore Harbor Marina.

 

Through membership, SSHMA provides:

  • A unified voice for tenants

  • Liaison with management and board members to represent tenants' interest in security, maintenance, and long-range planning

  • Promotion of transparency and accountability of public marina funds

  • Provide a conduit with management to facilitate maintenance and repairs as well as follow-up to ensure timely completion

  • Research, development, and long-range planning of facility improvements for the benefit of tenants

  • Liaison with on-site security and law enforcement neighborhood watch for improved security

  • "Boat Watch", a system to watch out for each other and report suspicious activity

  • Coordination and promotion of social events for tenants

  • Coordination and sponsorship of basic boating skill seminars

  • Promotion of safe recreation boating

  • Calendar of area-wide boating related events

  • Single-source for localized wind, weather, tide, radar data

  • Member discounts for boater's insurance (currently in negotiation)

  • Member discounts with area retailers (currently in negotiation)
